Hilary Penny
Educational Trainer and Consultant

Meet Hilary Penny

As an independent Educational Trainer and Consultant I have planned and delivered projects for a range of public and commercial customers.

Currently, I am fulfilling training contracts delivering training and consultancy in Safeguarding Children and Special Educational Needs/ Disabilities with a number of local authorities. As an associate trainer, I am supporting the National Children’s Bureau and National Day Nurseries Association with their delivery of Parents, Early Years and Learning (PEAL) and Working in Partnership with Parents (WiPwP) training courses for the Early Years workforce. As well as delivering training to delegates, I also train other trainers.

As an associate trainer for KIDs, the disabled children and young people’s charity and Childworks Ltd, I have developed and delivered training on leadership and management issues for children’s organisations.

I am also an assessor for the Early Years Professional status qualification for the National Day Nurseries Association in conjunction with the Open University.

The work I do reflects my varied career in education. I have been Early Years Foundation Stage Regional Advisor for the National Strategies. I was Lead Early Years Advisor for a large county authority. I have been Early Years Inclusion Officer.

At the chalkface, I taught extensively, and managed the work of others, in Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties and Special Educational Needs/ Disabilities settings. My interest in this sector led to my appointment as a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator in just my second year of teaching.

Academically, I have an MA and BEd Honours degree from the University of Northampton. I have completed the Access stage of NPQH, taken training as a coach and am now reading in preparation for a doctorate.
